"TAPASYA" - pray for a soul

SYNOPSIS

Tapasya, as the words suggests, has everything to do with prayer, penance and austerities.  In a time when turmoil reigned, the Lord of Dance, Shiva, brought peace and tranquility from his abode in Kailas. But he did not accomplish this alone. Ardhanari or the powerful form of Shiva and Shakti as a unified deity represent both masculine and feminine energies.  This perfect combination of man and woman, and harmony of emotions are vital to the stability of mankind.  Shiva is known as the Lord of Tandavam (vigorous form) and Parvathy as one who has command over Lasyam (graceful rhythmic form).  Which is superior and commanding?  This very question sparks an argument between the two powers leading to chaos. With Shiva incomplete without his wife, and Shakti consumed by her anger, there is a total lack of harmony in the world.  What happens next?  Will the powers realize they are one and the same?  Will Shakti realize she is inseparable from Shiva?  Come and watch the Tapasya dancers unfold a thematic presentation as they begin the show with AUM and take you on an energetic journey through the minds of the two powers and bring you back to AUM  for  One Tapasya.   One Prayer.   One Soul.

A word from the Artistic Director:

"I started working on TAPASYA in September 2008.  My goal was to design a classical dance show with a new age flair to it.  To accomplish that, music for the show had to recorded, chosen and remixed.  Amazing artists from Chennai have come together for this show.  Several individuals have helped me along the way.  My students are a constant source of inspiration to me and have stood by my side through it all.   I thank everyone at Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, my friends, and family.  To my husband Yogesh, I want to say - Thank you for telling me to dance till my heart's content."
